We handle nearly all NY state tax matters remotely. Your assigned team manages document gathering, correspondence with the DTF, and routine negotiations without requiring you to travel to our office. We maintain satellite offices in New York for client meetings by appointment, though most clients find it more convenient to work with us remotely. Only in rare cases would in-person attendance be required or beneficial.
Yes. If you received a Notice of Proposed Driver's License Suspension or your license has already been suspended, we can help you resolve the underlying tax debt and get your license reinstated. Once we resolve your tax debt, the DTF notifies the DMV to lift the suspension. Time is critical—you have only 60 days to respond to the initial notice before suspension occurs. Contact us immediately if you've received this notice.
We charge flat fees based on the service you need, not hourly billing. We provide a clear fee quote upfront after reviewing your situation during the free consultation. Payment plans are available for most services—we understand that if you're facing tax debt, cash flow may be tight. We are able to assist most peopole who we decide to take on as clients.
Timeline depends on the type of matter. Simple installment agreements typically resolve in 2-6 weeks. Levy releases can happen within 1-3 weeks if we act quickly. Penalty abatement requests take 30-60 days. Residency audits are the most time-intensive, often requiring 6-18+ months from initial contact to final resolution, especially if appeals are necessary.
Many of our clients face both federal and state tax debt simultaneously. We can handle both matters concurrently, which often results in better overall outcomes and cost savings. Resolving federal debt first sometimes improves your negotiating position with NY, and vice versa. We coordinate your collection defense across both jurisdictions to ensure consistent financial disclosures and prevent one agency's actions from undermining the other. Bundling federal and state resolution typically costs less than hiring separate representatives for each.
New York State tax cases often resolve faster than federal matters, but the Department of Taxation and Finance is more aggressive in certain areas. NY can suspend your driver's license for $10,000+ in unpaid taxes, uses higher interest rates (around 14.5% vs. IRS rates), and is stricter on certain resolution types. Residency audits are unique to state tax and involve intensive document review and day counts. Our team handles both federal and state matters, so we understand how they interact and can coordinate resolution strategies.
